I REPORT.COM can tell you how people in Iran using the technology to let the world know what they are going through!!

As I am watching CNN and I report for Iran protesters, I see people get killed! also, the news that president Obama have sent a massege to Iranian leaders: STOP KILLING PEOPLE, please sent his massege to Iranian Peole if you can, I beg everyone to help how ever you can!

I left the last night class for a legitimate reason that I had tolled Alex about, sorry did not have a chance to write a reflection, but after I read Patrizia’s comment, I thought I write that she said it for me and I think for everyone in our class that we all are  different person now when it comes to evaluating technology, compare to what we knew before this class. so thanks for the great course.

I missed the  most part of the discussion about Illich’s article but I’ll always remember what he said about the education: “Education is not limited in the class environment, it happens  every where”!  therefore, one as an individual should always watch out when she/he acts or talks, because there is always someone or some group is/ are “learning” also should always be aware not to miss all the good things that are happening for it can be “learned”. nasrin

although the presentation and the discussion of this week, like all other weeks, was very interesting and eye opener for me but the highlight o last night  class was the point Alex made about the digital games outcome, the out come as I understand is not just mastering self-designed computer games, but transforming all the skills to the real world problem-solving!  this would hopefully change the current  depository/ banking ( Freire 1997) system through providing environment for children to create their digital world and learn to create the real world better than it is now! I know that now most digital skills seems too far ahead of teachers time(Paper   ) but I am personally convinced that we are not that far (as my classmates who are teachers informed us about the training opportunities offered at schools) to incorporate learningvalues to the digital games, and not to be afraid of exercising  and learning  with the children, people usually afraid of unknownand the digital practice is not an exception to this rule. Nasrin notes are here

XO is dead, long live  the XO !

This is the title of  an article on line that I found while searching, for those who inspired by Negropante ‘s vision for bringing affordable computing to every child on the planet,it was a sad day in January when one laptop per child foundation he funded announced it was laying off half of its staff……(same article), so this means when we in our class were discussing this great invention, it was already stopped?!

the article continues talking about the new projects : XO 2.0. which I understood is a new approach for helping to get xos int the hands of dis advantaged children  in the world. then it talks about three other “technology initiatives“ that were highlighted in Negropante’s restructuring announcement(same article) . among these three, the project for creating a million digital books, was the most exciting one!  because when I was a child , reading a book  was a big event and I had to find a way to earn some money to do that since there was not many libraries around. but I am thinking:

although the article talks about the posibility to read these books via open-source that works on the xo , if they can not get funding for the xos , how would children be able to access this vast library?  (nasrin)

Robert Buderi is the Editor of the article , his note: this article is adapted from an article published Xconomy.com

I am constantly reading my classmates’ comments and learn a great deal from them, I can compare the different point of views’ of Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants, I see two different issues that has been discussed in these writings: the teaching and learning from one hand and the practical shift from the traditional and nontraditional/digital way of interaction between teacher& student from the other. We all know that since the Brizilian educator , Paul Freire  time(1997) the traditional/Banking model of teaching has been intellectually under attack and his philosophy of teaching and learning has been gained a great respect among all educators around the world, now the Digital learning and teaching has  practically replaced this philosophy influencing a social movement towards “Education” it is in my opinion another form of anti “depository” education and all my classmates comments seems to agree with this movement, but because of the fact that the “digital” way of interacting is not limited in just the classrooms and it has and continues to be effected all aspects of our lives some times negatively, we seems to be objective on the matter and question some of its effects. I think if we separate the digital education from digital living( having fun, social interaction, etc. ), we all can com to the terms, as most of my classmates wrote, that Digital Education is here to stay and it is a positive “change” if we ALL, have access to it and it doesn’t create an additional “social division” to our lives. could any one guide me please for doing the tag for my class reflections?

Thanks

Second class reflection –child-tech.

..when Martha asked what was your childhood dreams, I should’ve say: becoming invisible! Yes it was my all time childhood wish that now, after become an immigrant woman, it has been some how came true, but as you can tell I am not happy for this way of achievement! Becoming invisible for the fact that you are an immigrant and you are a woman and a parent whose knowledge of the digital world is the best excuse to be marginalized by your immediate surroundings (family) and by the societal system that requires the expertise that you lack! Is not something that makes anyone happy! So learning how to overcome this new disability may help to build a new relationship with my son who is most of the time on the computer although he is home to see us!!

I may as well hope that this (technological education) skill will help me to :

Contribute to the multicultural growth and social advancement of  my new countrycountry(Canada) through innovative responds to societal need in a knowledge based global education in my community. This way I may become visible again!

Reflection for first class: play-tech.

The first class was a gate to a new search in children& youths’ world.

It awoke my mind and made me ask an important question about the transformation role of teachers in the “new” digital world. And this question: how the technology would/has been effect parent-teacher as well as parent-children relationships, while parents becoming the innovators of their children’s education?

How does this new tool allows parents to keep their own perspectives and how would it affect day-to-day personal styles of living?
