My first day in class and I am already thinking about an experience with technology that I struggled with. I guess it would be when I started off my teaching career. My teaching partner had a student teacher who went to a technology school and of course they had to incorporate technology into everything that they did.
Well, our school has 2 smart boards and I never thought to use it because technology was not something that I was big on – I am actually very intimated by it. But mu teaching partner came over to me one day and told me how great the smart board was and how much her students lover it. So my teaching partner asked her student teach if she would not mind showing us how to use the smart board. The training was held at lunch and I have to say I was hooked right away.
As soon as I got home I downloaded the program right away and started making my own lessons. The next I tried it out on my own to make sure that it worked. Then I realized that the same programs that I developed could be use on a regular computer program. So what I did was have the students use the programs on the computer first and then I introduced them to the smart board and they really liked it. It was a little bit of a challenge at first because I had to keep reminding the students not to stand in front of the projector so they could see the board.
I did incorporate the smart board a lot in my lessons but now I am teaching a different grade and I have not used it at all this year. But this is some I definitely would like to get back into. Hopefully for the next school year I can the smart board as part of my daily routines.
